Will my second/connecting bus (or train/plane/boat) wait?

Date posted: February 21, 2008

If you have booked a connecting trip, i.e. a trip which involves two or more naked buses (i.e. there is only one reference number for the trip). In this case, the second bus will wait because the driver will be aware of the connecting passenger. However if a delay of more than 60 minutes  (due to conditions beyond our control) occurs, your connection is not guaranteed.
In these situations where your connecting bus can no longer wait nakedbus.com will transfer you to the next available service free of charge, this may be the following day.

Any accommodation required will be at the passenger’s expense.

Please see section 7 of our terms and conditions.

If you have booked two or more separate trips, we cannot guarantee your connection. The reason for this is because the second driver will not be aware that they are waiting for connecting passengers. For this reason you should always book the trip as a connecting trip. If you book separate trips it is at your own risk, and there will be no refund if you miss the second bus.

Connecting to/from other transport (planes, trains … and anything else)

We are not able to wait for other operators’ services. We cannot give special instructions to our drivers about waiting for a specific bus, train, plane or ferry. This would add complexity to our low cost operation, and likely would result in errors. Therefore you should book transport with ample windows of time to avoid disappointment. Delaying our buses would also inconvenience our other passengers and risk connections further along the route.

Suggested window between trips:

  • from any flight: at least two hours prior to check in
  • from another bus / train / ferry: at least two hours

We are not affiliated with any other form of transport. In particular we do not connect with Newmans, or InterCity services. You are responsible for being at the bus stop for the departure time stated on your confirmation email. Our buses do not wait for passengers who are trying to connect to or from other forms of transport. You should ensure AMPLE windows of time when traveling to or from other forms of transport (especially planes out of Auckland). It is not unusual for buses to run 30-60 minutes late when driving long distances. For flights, at least 2 hours should be given between the suggested arrival time of the bus and the check-in time (especially in Auckland and Wellington) – the same applies in the reverse direction. nakedbus.com® cannot be held responsible for delays caused by traffic etc.

    Picton Ferry

There is one exception for passengers travelling via ferry to Picton (but not by ferry to Wellington). Your booking confirmation email states: If you are coming off the InterIslander ferry (on a nakedbus ticket) and the ferry is delayed, you will be picked by the next available service. Note: If you are off the late ferry and the ferry is delayed you will have to make your own overnight arrangements. Your ticket will be valid for the next available bus. If your ferry is late but the bus is still there, identify yourself to the driver before you collect your luggage off the ferry.
