With over 150 islands potted throughout the breathtaking bay it’s one of the most popular fishing, sailing and tourist destinations in the country. The seaside town of Paihia is the ideal base for exploring the Bay of Islands and exploring the bay and the famous Hole in the Rock, swimming with dolphins, or sea kayaking. See our activities page for discounted activities and day trips that we offer in the Bay of Islands. Paihia is also culturally significant for tourists and New Zealanders – Maori Chiefs and the British Crown signed the Treaty of Waitangi here in 1840.
